How Do Braces Work?
Braces move your teeth by exerting constant pressure on them for extended periods of time. The shape of your jaw gradually adapts to conform to this pressure.
We tend to think of our teeth as being connected directly to our jawbone, making it hard to imagine how they can be moved. But underneath your gums is a membrane surrounded by your bones that roots your teeth to your jaw. This membrane controls the position of your teeth, and it responds to the pressure being put on your teeth by braces.
Getting braces doesn’t hurt during the appointment, and it takes between one to two hours for them to be installed. You may experience soreness for the first week you have braces as you adjust. Each time your braces are adjusted by your orthodontist, you may also be sore for a few days.

Gingivitis: The earliest stage of gum disease, characterized by redness, swelling, and bleeding of the gums. Gingivitis is often reversible with proper dental care and hygiene.
Periodontitis: If gingivitis is not treated, it can advance to periodontitis. At this stage, the inner layer of the gum and bone pull away from the teeth, forming pockets that can become infected. Toxins from the bacteria and the body’s response to the infection can start to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place.
Advanced Periodontitis: As the disease progresses, the pockets deepen, and more gum tissue and bone are destroyed. This can lead to tooth loss and may require more intensive treatment, such as LANAP laser gum surgery.

Tooth Loss: As the disease progresses, the bone supporting the teeth can be lost, leading to loose teeth or tooth loss.
Bad Breath: Chronic bad breath, or halitosis, is a common symptom of gum disease caused by the accumulation of bacteria in the mouth.
Systemic Health Risks: Emerging research has linked gum disease to several systemic health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, and complications during pregnancy. The inflammation caused by gum disease may contribute to these conditions, making it crucial to address periodontal problems early.

Red, Swollen Gums: Healthy gums should be firm and pink. If your gums are red, swollen, or tender, it could be a sign of gum disease.
Bleeding Gums: Gums that bleed easily during brushing or flossing are often an early indicator of gingivitis.
Persistent Bad Breath: If you have chronic bad breath that doesn't improve with brushing or mouthwash, it could be related to periodontal disease.
Receding Gums: If your gums are pulling away from your teeth, making them appear longer, you may be experiencing gum recession, a sign of advanced gum disease.
Loose Teeth: Teeth that feel loose or have shifted in position may be a sign that the supporting structures have been damaged by periodontitis.

"After an old crown shattered, my "regular" office informed me that Beachside Smiles had availability. I was lucky to find this group of professional and personable technicians, office staff, and my dentist. The crown was made and the color perfected within 24 hours. I don't know if you can understand how much work this took: I have a mouth full of crowns of varying quality and fit. This practice has the newest equipment and they know how to use it. This was not inexpensive but I believe the price was not only worth it but a bargain. I don't want another crown to shatter but I intend to return to replace one of my older crowns as soon as I can. Let me emphasize: The quality of the people in the office shows in the work they do! Thank you everyone at Beachside Smiles"

"The staff, office manager (Brandi) and the dentist are most excellent. They greet you with genuine care and warmth and it only goes UP from there. I came to them with horrible jaw pain, cracked teeth and a true fear of dentistry. I left with a new smile and hope for my oral future! Thanks for a job very well done - I highly recommend Beachside Smiles!"
